The Community Health Workers Section advocates for and promotes the voice and role of community health worker within public health, the community, and in healthcare settings; as well as contributes to the development of the CHW role (including Promotores de Salud, Community Health Representatives, Community Health Advisors, and other related titles) through policy, development opportunities, and provides a forum to share resources, activities, and strategies nationally.

The American School Health Association is a multidisciplinary organization made up of administrators, counselors, dietitians, nutritionists, health educators, physical educators, psychologists, school health coordinators, school nurses, school physicians, and social workers. Collectively, ASHA is working to lead efforts to prioritize school-based approaches that promote lifelong health, build a community to support the whole child, and activate champions of school health.

ABCD and its affiliated faculty have created a library of community building workbooks, published scholarly articles, books, and chapters oriented to an array of audiences, and developed training curricula and other materials associated with the asset-based community development approach. Additionally, ABCD has gathered community stories from many of its partners and feature them on this website as a resource from which other communities can learn. Finally, ABCD provides examples of asset-mapping tools so that community groups and organizations can borrow from the experiences of others doing asset-based community development work.

The National Association of Community Health Workers (NACHW) was founded in April 2019 after several years of planning and organizing by Community Health Workers (CHWs) and allies across the United States. NACHW is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit membership-driven organization with a mission to unify CHWs across geography, ethnicity, sector and experience to support communities to achieve health, equity and social justice.

The New York State Public Health Association (NYSPHA) is an affiliate of the American Public Health Association and serves as a statewide organization for members from all disciplines in the public health spectrum including state and county health departments, healthcare; policy and advocacy organizations; community based health and human service programs and workers; academia and research.
NYSPHA advocates for policies at the national, state and regional levels that support equity in health status and an end to health disparities for all.
NYSPHA is among the nation’s oldest, independent, nonprofit public health organizations. We serve as a broad-based statewide organization devoted to promoting and protecting the health of all New Yorkers.
